Black and White Wednesday

The other day I happened upon twenty eight month old Milana

writing me a little note.

Well......doesn't it look like that's what she's doing?

Oh yes, you are witnessing the beginnings of

genius.

Or maybe not. "Is that call for me? I'll take it."

It's Lisa's

challenge again to have some fun with black and white conversions. I edited these in Lightroom but after last week's on line Photoshop CS3 class with Lisa - next week I'll be using my PS to edit. It's a challenge for sure - but I know I love it!!

And here are the many faces of my Dahlia.

What is it about this face that I can't get enough of?















Had to throw in one color. Belle face!

I found a few more China pictures. I think this one is interesting because it shows the two sides of China. The house boat with the ancient roof line and the sprawling modern building in the background.

Black and White Wednesday

It's Wednesday again and time to play around with some black and white conversions.

But first....in honor of March 17th and good ol St Paddy, I had to post a little green. These are some massive lotus leaves in Hangzhou, China from our trip last August.


Can't you imagine a little green leprechaun, popping his little capped head over the side of this leaf?!

This week my muse was at it again. Sometimes I wonder what she is thinking about when she stares at me like this. I'm crazy about the contours of her face as well as the quirky cuteness of her personality.





Threw in a color - just for comparison.

I love these soft, sweet moments captured in the midst of the chaos.

My fav of Milana. I posted it before in color. It's even more poignant in blk&wh, I think.

These were taken with my Sony point n shoot so they're noisy but who cares? It's the memory they invoke that's important.

One of my favorite things is the silouette of tree trunks - the more twisted the better.

Our Great Wall photo is so misty but it's the only one we have so it's precious.

This sweet face breaks my heart. She was so lost and scared.

But big Sis could crack her up even then.

I sure love my girlies!

Black and White Wednesday

Time to play around with some black and white conversions. I picked three of my favorite shots of a fun little session I had with a boa and my darlin'.

I just can't get enough of that face!!! (That face that very soon will be missing a front tooth......sniff..........that's me sniffing.)

Update: At 2:30 in the morning, an excited, bouncing Dahlia jumped on our bed shouting....Mommy,Daddy,Mommy....my tooth came out. She was euphoric and we were all up for at least an hour after that!!

It's funny, I think I mentioned in my first post of Lisa's black and white challenge that I had never really been a fan of black and white photography. I've had a 180 degree turn-around. These pictures are in a soft pink, which is so pretty, but in blk&wh they just feel so different. I love the contrast and how the white just pops.

Black and White Wednesday

A couple of weeks ago, the sun was finally shining enough in the livingroom window so I whipped out my camera, a little dress-up dress and a compliant Dahlia (ok....there may have been some chocolate involved) and snapped a few pics.

I thought they would convert well to black and white for Lisa's Wednesday exercise and I like the way they turned out. Of course, I have about 200 from that shoot (yeah....I'm a little crazy) but I just chose two.

And so as not to break with tradition - here are 2 snaps from our China trip last August. We happened upon a little sidewalk sales stall, selling these sweet little parasols. I didn't end up buying any there as I waited till Beijing to spend all my money (!#$??!) but they were so cute all lined up like that. I feel kind of quilty not buying any from the little stand but only taking a picture. (My bad.)

And this is an upwards shot of our hotel in Hangzhou. These tiered parasols were bright red but look kind of cool in black and white too. ( I remember thinking that if my foyer was large enough (haha) this would really look great.)

That's all for today. I'm hitting the hay early 'cause tomorrow I'm packing up the library (soon to be our family room).
